It’s been incredibly painful to see the human rights violations devastating Colombia at the hands of police.

President Duque in a mimesis of Trump called protesters radical left looking to destabilize democracy.

Protesters are students, teachers, my friends, family. Civilians.
The protests were over a tax that would raise the price of everyday goods IN THE MIDDLE OF A PANDEMIC. There shouldn’t be 24 people dead or 87 people disappeared over tax protests.

I have seen more videos of violence than I ever care to again. #colombiasos
I saw a mother scream in grief about her son, “He was my only son, kill me too.”

I saw video of Lucas Villa, an activist, dance joyfully at the protests, hours before he was shot that night. https://twitter.com/dani0607g/status/1390190787019919362?s=20
I have seen police open fire at unarmed civilians. Tanks shooting tear gas. Police out of uniform infiltrating protests and, it seems, shooting from vans.
I have seen violinists gather in Medellin to play an orchestral rendition of the Latin American protest anthem. And crowds singing along, El Pueblo unido jamás será vencido. https://twitter.com/JFColombia/status/1390365104626143233?s=20
I have seen Indigenous people take to the streets with drums and flutes. https://twitter.com/lasillavacia/status/1390006685989756930?s=20
Girls voguing in protest in front of the riot police. https://twitter.com/alexbaretv/status/1387878031671320578?s=20
Do you know this is happening?

Yesterday I saw a tweet by Marco Rubio where he echoed Duque’s dangerous lies. Calling the protesters guerrilla members.

The acute danger of empire. If you abhor police brutality here I need you to abhor police brutality everywhere.
