I thought I'd share a little story on how I landed my writing gigs and how it all came from changing my language from

"I'm an aspiring screenwriter" to "I am a screenwriter".

When I first moved to Vancouver I was HELLA GREEN in like all areas lmao. 1/?
I'm from Australia where our industry basically doesn't exist or you're Andrew Knight. Not everyone is Andrew Knight
Anyway, first time I was on set was for a pilot. I had NEVER worked set before except like friends short films, but I got given the opportunity by a lovely woman /
She was impressed with my "work ethic outside of set" (also the producer/director is Aussie so he took me under his wing) anyway, I was a PA on this pilot. It was a three day over night shoot. I was Hella NERVY. But everyone I met was lovely. People asked me why I moved to Van /
And I said "to work in film". Most people I met moved from Toronto to Vancouver coz of work and the weather. I told everyone I'm "an aspiring screenwriter" and it was just a "oh okay cool". But every one I spoke to would say "I'm in camera" or "I'm a lighting technician" etc
So one day I changed my language from "aspiring" to "I am a screenwriter" and the "oh ok cool" went to "awesome, would love to read your stuff".

And from THAT I got a meeting with Vancouver producers about adapting a book and another to write a pilot based on their treatment /
Anyway, all I'm saying is, don't be shy about where you stand. It's okay to fake it until you make it. But I wasn't really faking it coz I am a writer, I just had more confidence within myself just like all the other people did. And they have great careers.

The end.
