💡Feature Friday💡

For this week's #FeatureFriday we have Claire ( @ClaireHill_),
a final year Interdisciplinary Bioscience PhD student who works in the Baena Lopez lab at the @Dunn_School, in collaboration with the Carter lab at Oxford Brookes! (1/n)
"I have been studying extracellular vesicles (EVs), carriers released by cells which act like a message in a bubble, allowing cells to communicate with their neighbours and cells at a distance. I have been decoding the RNA messages sent via EVs to identify RNA features... (2/n)
can be used to manipulate long-range cell communication. A better understanding of cell communication provides insight into how these processes can go wrong during diseases such as cancer or neurodegeneration. (3/n)
Additionally, by learning how to manipulate cell communication, we can potentially target and treat diseased cells with therapeutic molecules.
Outside the lab, I am passionate about science communication. (4/n)
I really enjoyed interning for the Northern Ireland Science Festival in 2019, sharing my work and highlighting how we can use EVs to become ‘Disease Detectives’ to diagnose illnesses. (5/6)
The Dunn School has been such as supportive department and a fantastic place to do my PhD. I have really enjoyed the past four years. I feel really lucky because I’ve met so many wonderful people and I’ve learnt a lot!" (6/6)
You can follow @Dunn_GSA.
