So many people out here arguing *theoretical* concerns about trans women and girls in sports. “Well they might” “It’s possible they could” ... and ignoring the realities of the struggles trans kids - especially trans kids of color - face every day.
(TW: Violence against intersex/trans person) A man close to our family once told me about his sister's child, born intersex in southern Iowa in the 60s. As a baby, genitals were altered; child was sent home to be "raised as a girl"
Kiddo was "a tomboy" and all was well and good... until kiddo began to go through male puberty. (family had never told the child about being born intersex or about the surgery performed on their genitals)
As a young adult, they finally learned the truth after many years of horrendous bullying and abuse, extreme mental health problems and many suicide attempts.
They survived. By a miracle, they survived. So many do not.
They affirmed their gender as male in the 1980s after decades of struggle, shaming and confusion.
I know it's fun for conservative pundits to theorize about which people are actually human and who should be afforded dignity and unalienable rights but remember, for millions of kids (and adults) this is very, very real and very, very dangerous.
