My grandmom passed away last night. She was a remarkable woman. Born in Guyana (at the time, British Guiana), went to school in England, met my late grandfather in Canada, raised my mom’s family in various states here in the US.
She was Chinese; I have a pretty cool book that traces my Chinese lineage back hundreds and hundreds of years. She became a midwife and a Nurse Practitioner. She taught English to Chinese children in China, delivered babies all over the world, and had all kinds of crazy stories.
She was vaccinated in February of this year in Florida, where she was living. She was diagnosed with COVID not too long ago. She had a fall and was hospitalized, where the diagnosis was made. She was having a very hard time getting oxygen to her lungs due to COVID.
Everyone should get the vaccine and this is in not way a post questions the efficacy of it. Just a reminder that everyone should still be careful, particularly among vulnerable and elderly populations. Keep my mom in your thoughts, as she was her last living parent.
