It was hard to watch people I thought were compassionate humans dismiss the risks and throw disabled and old people under the bus. But I cut my friends lists and moved on.

It's been harder to watch people in that remainder dismiss kids, disabled, and the WORLD
"Why aren't we opening yet? Are we just clinging to fear?"

Because we're only at ALMOST 50% of ADULTS having ONE shot? 0% of the kids? Big swaths of people still with none?

Because states are still seeing a thousand or more cases a DAY?
The U.S. is still third in the world for new cases per day. Just short of 48 thousand cases YESTERDAY.
"We're getting past this."

No, we're not. Even if you think 48k cases a day is fine, India saw 400k confirmed new cases and 4k confirmed new deaths (and with numbers that high you know they're missing some). Brazil saw 72.5k cases and 2.5k deaths.
Even if you can't care enough about almost a million people a DAY getting this across the world...

Right now our hoarded vaccines work against the known variants. Every new infection is a chance for vaccine escape, for a new variant that eludes our vaccines.
"It's clear No Covid can't be our goal, now."

Excuse me, what? The utter lack of compassion for anyone outside their immediate circle, even from people who've LOST FAMILY AND FRIENDS just...

How do I explain you should care at least enough to have enlightened self interest?
