Anyway
What I love about this the most is that the hesitation comes after a brief moment of being okay with Ava seeking out comfort from her. Beatrice is fully capable of showing affection, she is just unsure of her own comfort levels.
It's a great example of her knowing who she is but being afraid to be that person. It pairs really nicely with the hallway scene that follows because Beatrice is the one who seeks Ava out. It's at her own terms and at a pace she is setting.
Beatrice is kind and caring and instinctually wants to help, but the moment it teeters into a space that is uncomfortable for her, she physically and emotionally takes a step back.
It's very beautiful for her to open up to Ava in 1x08 because she has been going back and forth with her comfort levels, but in that moment, she just lets it all out. She finds herself in a space where she can be vulnerable.
And Ava reacts in the most Ava Silva way: with kindness.
