The fact that Animation is a privileged career choice drives me insane. You have to have pro-grade skills to start your career. You need to move to LA. Learning on the job skills and getting crucial feedback is behind a paywall. You need connections in the industry. (1/?)
I am ignoring nuance here but this is constantly what I see on my feed day in, day out. On top of all that, your job expectations are rising higher than ever. Training if at all, happens on the job but outside that it& #39;s near impossible to grow and meet expectations. (2/?)
So many voices go unheard. So much talent is missed out on. Being green means low wages, lack of respect, and so many pros constantly advising you to do more. It& #39;s tiring. Even with the countless free resources out there they all seem to fall short of what the job demands.(3/?)
Even at the skill level I am now, I constantly share resources and try to help others learn. The gap between education and job expectations is huge. I knew zero about the industry even with extensive research. The only way I learned is because a pro taught me. (4/?)
Green artists should be valued more. They spend so much time learning without an end in sight. They read, they practice, they can& #39;t even support themselves and try to navigate industry expectations. That sounds like a hell of a lot for someone not being paid or seen. (5/?)
I am not going to stop teaching and helping others as I grow. Green artists will always have my respect because that& #39;s an INSANELY HARD part of the artistic journey that many do alone. Self-taught artists I see you. This part takes willpower and patience. Don& #39;t give up (6/end)
Adding on, if you ever have questions on art I& #39;ll either have an answer, or be able to find a resource that has it. Be kind to eachother. Be appreciative of the pros going above and beyond. Respect the craft and more importantly yourself. Create what you love. (7/bonus)
Adding on again, this isn& #39;t a list of requirements. This is what I have observed in the timeline constantly. For those taking this literally...DON& #39;T. It& #39;s not a checklist, and none of it is required. There& #39;s no direct path to a job. It& #39;s different for everyone. (8/bonus)
I& #39;m amazed that this resonates with so many of y& #39;all. The journey can be really discouraging from time to time, and it can be nice to know you aren& #39;t alone. Please continue to encourage eachother! Don& #39;t give up, and be a positive force in the animation community!
I think this goes without saying, that International animation Deserves it& #39;s own discussion. This thread is mostly sharing obstacles and expectations regularly seen here US twitter. It does not apply to everyone. I am happy to see people discuss it as well!
