I have seen a lot of people saying that Asta& #39;s ideals aren& #39;t being developed like what kind of wizard King he& #39;d become.
Asta& #39;s ideals were formed the moment he wanted to become the wizard King (Anime expands on this). He wanted to end all of this discrimination between people
Which was based on difference in Magic power. The royals looked down on the commoners. Also, there& #39;s a reason why the "forsaken realm" was named that way, whose condition was the worst of all. As if the lives of people living there, their dignity don& #39;t even matter. He wanted...
...end it and prove that they aren& #39;t worthless.

Everytime, he fought against one of the elves, he noticed that every one of them were driven by "revenge".
The root cause was the massacre of the elves he saw through Patrie& #39;s memories. Which was because of, again, the difference..
...in Magic power. The humans envied the elves. Which made it easier for the devil to control them, to exterminate the elves. "Saving the elves" is just an "extension" of Asta& #39;s ideal. That he wanted to end this discrimination based on just difference in magical power.
Also, the notion is "magic is everything" in the world of Black Clover. It& #39;s the very reason why human society in Clover Kingdom is divided and discrimination exists. Asta having "anti magic" is a direct counter to that. His very power signifies his ideals, more or less.
What& #39;s more, we see Wizard King& #39;s inner dialogues right around the moment Asta was stating his ideals to Mereoleona. And both were similar. Again strengthening the fact that Asta is WORTHY of becoming the Wizard King.
He even sees the good within a DEVIL (Liebe), a literal incarnation of "malice".
But, Asta isn& #39;t foolish enough to "befriend every devil" out there. Did you see him stuck up on "talking things out" with Naamah and Lilith? No. He had a serious facial expression the entire time.
In the Spade arc, we& #39;re dealing with the "root causes" of the cycle of revenge. The "irrational evil" as Nacht describes them.
And through his response to Dante about being human, we get an insight into Asta& #39;s character.
Even if it feels "generic", Asta& #39;s character has depth.
I hope this thread helped you understand Asta and his ideals better than before.
