It’s not even like I think a leftwing party would necessarily win in Hartlepool. But certain Labour MPs just refuse to concede the problems of 2019 weren’t exclusively limited to Corbyn because it’s convenient and comforting to believe that was true
The centre just yelled “people hated your man” and this morning the left are yelling it back and the truth is it’s more complicated and I’m afraid therefore much more difficult to fix than that
To be clear! Labour should be a leftwing party, there was massive progress made with a radical manifesto looking to tackle inequality, a whole generation of activists engaged, and economically and environmentally there is no other way.
But the media scaremongered about those ideas for five years and instead of taking the narrative back, keeping ideas that worked and retaining engaged support base, Starmer just kept saying “I’m not Corbyn” as if that’d be enough. If all the problems were Corbyn, why wasn’t it?
But seems what he’s taken from last night is a determination to just say “I’M NOT CORBYN” even louder so. Get ready to keep losing.
