This is my election hot take:

The Labour movement built the party- but too often the movement looks to the party now to build the movement.

That isn’t going to happen.

These are structural challenges to Labour-focusing on personality solutions won’t work #LocalElections2021
“Organising” has become a generic verb within the movement for any form of activity- when we still service, at best, in most areas.

This shows either a broad lack of understanding, and/or lack of appetite to do it.

We are in serious danger of forgetting our own craft.
The brutal truth is that in most places even our “wins” are too often concessions the establishment are happy to grant us.

We puff our chests out-but the Labour movement is on life support.

And the Labour Party (or any party) is not going to fix it for us. We need to do that.
In most workplaces, trade unions can’t even convince a big bulk of our members of how to vote- because the alienation is happening on the ground, & in too many places we haven’t earned the right to talk to trade union members about politics.
Affiliated unions give Labour money- but we can’t even deliver our own members votes.

The good news is, we know the solutions around this- we just try to avoid them because it’s hard work.

Tldr- don’t expect the Labour Party to avoid decline, when it’s the whole movement too.
