Chaos aside, Keir Starmer finally has a clear, justified opportunity to pivot and end the tyranny of being a basic bitch - without being hounded. That means he can go ‘our approach failed, it’s time to bring something substantive.’ and use that for a powerful left wing campaign.
Question is...is his team smart enough to do this...or are they playing the PR game of back and forth with the Daily Mail to get hits in the non-progressive electorate
The campaigns strategist in me is thinking his team was in a room and went ‘how do we create the opposite of Boris.’ But I wd argue it’s not about being opposite in manner and behaviour, but opposite in policy & interests - performative more than anything else and the ppl see it
But also i don’t want to dramatise what happened in Hartlepool - I don’t think Keir is a total flop yet, but I do think his campaign strategists are. And I think focusing on the pain of losing Brexit seats is just a waste of time because these people are not interested anymore
And that doesn’t mean Labour should give up on them I just think the British suck at political changes and so it takes years for political folk to catch up to a changing culture landscape environment and economy because their heads are always stuck in the past elections
Also I hate that losing a few sets to far right populism makes everyone feel devastated and I don’t want anyone reading this to think anything other than that we will eventually win and that fundamentally people believe in their own betterment and the betterment of others
