Expect an outbreak of angry debate in Labour about whether they need to revert to Corbyn-era policies, or push ahead more boldly with a Starmer-style shift to centre. But it seems increasingly clear neither, on their own, is an answer, or that anyone knows what the answer is.
And if no answer emerges, one imponderable is when more people in Labour will start to think about electoral alliances/a long-term push for PR. A few already are, but most remain outraged at the idea they might not be a party that can win outright majorities under FPTP.
It's not to say Labour never will win again. But *if* the structural factors remain against them – Scotland, culture-based politics, stacking up votes in safe seats – then when might a shift towards alliance/PR happen? One more general election loss? Two? Before the next?
