Gonna go on a VERY IMPORTANT rant, so stick with me here. If you're driving, and you roll up on an accident where police/fire/EMS are NOT on scene yet, DON'T FUCKING PROCEED TO DRIVE AROUND THE CARS THAT ARE TRYING TO BLOCK THE ROAD.
I know you're thinking "Ah, shit. I'm gonna be late to work," BUT DON'T FUCKING DO IT. Instead, call work, call your mom, call whomever you need to call and let them know you might be a little late to your destination.
Snap a pic and send a text if you have to provide proof (as long as there are no dead bodies laying around), but FOR THE LOVE OF THE GODS, STOP YOUR FUCKING VEHICLE.
You don't know what caused the accident. Was it just a deer running through the road that they swerved to avoid, or did they collide with a bystander? Was anybody ejected from the vehicle? YOU. DON'T. KNOW.
Sometimes, patients get disoriented and are suddenly overcome with adrenaline and confusion. They stumble around the scene when they shouldn't be moving at all. YOU. DON'T. KNOW.
Waiting for EMS/Fire/Police to clear the scene and a lane for you to pass by is IMPERATIVE. Too many people are unaware of how frequently the accidents escalate because someone wasn't willing to wait.
You can't see past the cars that are trying to block the road, so you can't see the victim laying in the road until it's too late. You didn't stop to assess a situation/let professionals clear the roadway so now a disoriented car crash victim is stumbling in front of your vehicle
The 20-30 minutes you're going to be delayed is not worth the risk of seriously injuring/killing a person. It happens more often than it should.
Just last week, a woman in our area was walking in the evening as the sun was going down and was hit by a car that was driving too fast. A bystander stopped, blocked the road with their car, and called 911.
While on the phone with 911, someone was coming & was in a hurry, so they attempted to drive around the car blocking the road and the person yelling at them & waiving their arms. In doing this, they struck the woman (who had been alert & responsive up until then) and killed her.
STOP THE FUCKING CAR. WAIT FOR POLICE/FIRE/EMS TO CLEAR THE ROADWAY. JESUS FUCKING CHRIST, WHY THE FUCK DOES THIS NEED TO BE SAID?!
On my way home from work tonight, I pulled up on an accident before EMS. A kid in a pick-up truck lost control, hit the center median, rolled his truck three times, and ended up facing the wrong way on the highway (car had JUST finished it's last roll when I pulled up).
Three cars tried blocking the highway, I parked on the shoulder. Two dudes are checking on the kid to see if he's alive. While on the phone with 911, a couple starts trying to drive THROUGH the accident by swerving around our vehicles.
We're all yelling at them to stop the fucking car. They start cussing at us, saying they gotta get to work, absolutely flipping shit for no necessary reason. The kid gets out of the truck, blood gushing from his head, disoriented.
They continue to try to cut through the scene AND ALMOST HIT THE VICTIM WHEN THEY SHOULD HAVE JUST STOPPED THE FUCKING CAR.
I don't give a fuck if you're the goddamn President of the United States, STOP. THE FUCKING. CAR. They could have killed this kid the way that woman was killed a week ago. He collapsed to the ground seconds later, they could have run right over him.
Get your fucking priorities straight, and next time you find yourself in this situation, just stop. Hit the brake, put the car in park, and stop.
See if anybody has called 911/emergency yet. If no, make the call. If yes, help look for/tend to victims until EMS arrives (if it's safe to do so and there aren't KNOB GOBBLING ASSHATS DRIVING THROUGH THE SCENE) . Just, for the love of all things, stop your car.
I'm so fucking angry, even after the 45+ minutes I still had to drive to get home. I'm shaking with rage. There was absolutely no compassion or concern from those people. So self-absorbed, vulgar... It's infuriating. Slow down, stop the car, and maybe save a life.
I'm done now. If you've made it through this thread, thanks for your time, sorry for the language, and hope you have a good rest of your day/night/whatever time of day it is in your timezone.
