Wishing profs would give their students better advice about protocols for approaching / demanding in depth interviews from Indig folks because it’s getting overwhelming in my inbox & i’m not even a high profile Native person!
What are their ethics? Is the info just for an assignment? Is that a reasonable expectation? Or is it going to be heard or read by anyone else?

some of these requests feel like busywork, questions that could be answered with better resources instead of me giving up so much time
Like, I get it! It’s great to interview real Natives & learn about our lived experiences!

But think about what you’re asking of a classroom’s worth of un-pre-informed Indig interviewees?

Emotional labor? Weird invasive questions not necessarily handled with care?
I’m a person who values education a lot, so I usually don’t mind some of this, but I do wish it were less of a fuzzy & frustrating experience.

(I always say yes to Indig students!)
