I’ve been reading The Making of Biblical Womanhood. I didn’t want to. But I had to see for myself what all the fuss is about.

I have many thoughts. But foremost is that it really only feels necessary to those who think evangelicalism is redeemable.

It stands up for women only in the most narrow of contexts. And while Dr. Barr’s knowledge of medieval church history is impressive, it feels more like one woman’s quest to egalitarianism- rather than “How the subjugation of women became gospel truth,” as the title states.

I’m sure I’ll have more thoughts when I finish the book. I’m keenly aware that I’m reading this post-deconstruction, as an agnostic intersectional feminist. That said, I was hoping for something more. But I guess in the world of the SBC, this is something more.🤷🏻‍♀️
