If this is correct, Liz Cheney is already an American hero.

More broadly, people are not fully appreciative of the professionalism of our military. Trump would have tried an actual coup in a heartbeat, if he thought the military was with him.

SO much Liz Cheney hatred out there, primarily because of her policy choices.

Fine.

But ... do you think it was more likely or less likely for her to get her way on rolling back environmental regulations and cutting taxes under a Biden administration?
Because she and Republicans generally were getting pretty much every policy they wanted out of Trump, every right-wing judge they could dream of, while giving him none of the nonsense he wanted (wall money, for example).
Yet Cheney worked to ensure that Joe Biden took the oath on Jan. 20, on schedule.

Why?

Because her personal policies notwithstanding, she believes in democracy and the Constitution.
One hundred forty-seven of her GOP colleagues were ready to set American democracy on fire on Jan. 6 — even AFTER Trump’s murderous mob attacked them, by way of contrast.
As to that op-ed. Go ahead and mock it as meaningless, but it reality was a big, big deal.

For all the living secretaries of defense to remind every American in uniform that their oath was to the Constitution and not to any one person, even the commander in chief ... well.
That was an important and well-timed statement at a critical moment.

And if Liz Cheney made that happen? Yes, she absolutely is an American hero.
