The “I need to buy a Minneapolis Moline U (tractor) older that’s 10 years older than my father” begins. We head to Saint Louis very close to where I grew up. #tractor
As we pulled in to the yard, @BillyMonaco says “Apparently it was stuck for YEARS, but he got it out”. The tone in his voice is impressed but I’m not sure that’s a selling figure. #tractor
As this video demonstrates, it does start. As a wife, I’m starting to despair that @BillyMonaco might buy this thing. #tractor
Of course, the dude who owns this tractor speaks French. Michif with France in his accent. #tractor
We switched into French and reviewed our genealogy. We aren’t related but he knew my grandparents. I know all his nephews. He raised his eyebrows at @BillyMonaco I told him maiden name. This is an omen. I’m warming up to the idea of this tractor. #metis #fransaskois #tractor
@BillyMonaco is now the proud owner of a Mineapolis Moline U 1945 tractor. Despite my misgivings, I have been convinced. Now we just have to figure out how to drive it home, 200 kilometres and across both Saskatchewan rivers. #tractor
What road trip to get a 70 year-old tractor would be complete without going to @PeaveyMart to get a grease gun, motor oil, hydraulic fluid, gear oil and more garden seeds- while nursing a hangover? #Saskatchewan #tractor
Antique tractor road trip update. We have covered 25km, only problem so far was a “small” fire in the exhaust manifold because a bird had made a nest in there. #tractor The River Road to St. Laurent is beautiful country.
Pit stop in Duck Lake to grease everything up and have a quick lunch I made. Next stop- Wingard Ferry. We are about a 1/3 of way home. Starting worry about hours of daylight left.
Second ferry of the day (Wingard) North Saskatchewan. I had a small panic attack in @BillyMonaco got me through it.
