What we are seeing with Biden foreign policy is everything that is wrong with politicized Galaxy Brain pontificating. Before I turn to the sham that is Galaxy Brain think tanks, academics, and journos, let's start with what I have said about the world and Biden 1/n
I said Trump policy on China was generally good and in the right direction. I said US "allies" were amuch bigger problem than people realized and not due to Trump.Galaxy Brains said Trump policy was awful and burned down half the rain forest generating electricty on opeds 2/n
and Substacks of just how wrong he was one everything. So let's unpack the reality. Well so far, and not blaming yet though that clock is rapidly ticking towards zero, the Biden administration has rolled forward almost 100% of Trump policies on China. I mean considering how 3/n
Wrong the Trump administration was on all these issues that either makes Biden just as wrong or it means Trump was actually pretty right. Now I have actually said Biden has done a solid if unremarkable job on foreign policy because they really haven't done anything yet 4/n
Except roll forward the previous policies. They are rapidly running out of time for that to be a passing grade. I'm giving them until early mid-suummer when their supposed China policy opus is due. What is the larger point here? I have gladly said the Biden administration 5/n
Has been solid if unremarkable because (and this is the important part) who does the action (and gets credit for it) is less important than getting it done. Galaxy Brain thinking attributes policy successonly to whether their guy does it entirely divorced from whether 6/n
Is absolutely or relatively good or bad. The reason this matters is it completely colors how you view the world. One of the biggest lessons being delivered to the Biden adminsitration like a 2x4 to the face is that a lot of "allies" are not just playing hard to get 7/n
Because of Trump but because there are much more fundamental issues. When your entire worldview is driven by hating one side rather than understanding and then solving the issue, you get a very distorted view of opportunities and solutions. I did not agree with Trump 8/n
on a fair amount like immigration. I know someone leaving the US soon in part due to Trump immigration policies. That is a loss for the US. I can also honestly say there was a lot of good work that took place and Biden rolling those policies forward is proof of that 9/n
For all the imes Galaxy Brains will snear about partisanship being a helluvva drug, they are among the worst and a majorroad block to more accurate analysis when your entire job description is waiting for the next administration job on your side to open up. Done
