It is clear that most of the criticism you are hearing about this bill is coming from people that:
1. Haven& #39;t read the bill
or
2. Have read it, but are hoping you won& #39;t read it so they can spread misinformation about the bill.

I will break it down section by section and you can decide for yourself.
This section says that OK colleges and universities can& #39;t REQUIRE students to take gender or diversity training or counseling. A student can still opt to participate in those courses if they choose.

This section says that OK colleges and universities can& #39;t REQUIRE students to take gender or diversity training or counseling. A student can still opt to participate in those courses if they choose.
2/
This section also says that OK colleges and universities can& #39;t teach stereotypes of race or sex in their courses or orientation programs.
So that& #39;s a NO to race and sex stereotypes. Controversial huh?

3/
This section is VERY important. It says that nothing in the bill shall stop a teacher from teaching subjects that align to the Oklahoma Academic Standards. These are the current agreed upon standards and topics that teachers are already teaching to.
4/
4/
The important part about this section is understanding that the words found below apply to all of the subsections below it.
5/
5/
Schools can& #39;t teach that someone is automatically racist, sexist, or oppressive based on their race or sex.
Again, no stereotyping based on race or sex.
7/
Again, no stereotyping based on race or sex.
7/
Schools can& #39;t teach that individuals are responsible for everything that happened in the past by people of their same race or sex.
In other words, just because someone that looks like you did something bad, doesn& #39;t mean I should hold that against you.

11/
This section says that schools cannot teach that someone SHOULD feel guilty based on the actions of others that may look like them.
You notice it does not say that a student MAY never feel guilty, just that schools shouldn& #39;t teach students that they should feel guilty.
12/

Schools can& #39;t teach that traits like hard work and the American Dream are racist concepts or meant to oppress others.
13/
13/
That& #39;s it. That& #39;s the whole bill.
So what does this bill do? It says that there won& #39;t be state sponsored racism in Oklahoma. It says that OK schools will not stereotype their students. it says that OK schools will not teach that one race or sex is better than another.

Those should not be controversial statements. Those are statements that every Oklahoman, regardless of their race or sex, should agree with.
Teachers are still allowed to teach about the horrors of slavery and our struggles with racism. But if a teacher has to stereotype

their students or judge them by their race or sex in order to teach those subjects, THEY& #39;RE DOING IT WRONG!
Will this bill fix all of our problems? No. No bill can. But teaching our kids not to judge someone by the color of their skin or their sex is a good place to start.
