ok ill bite. First c!dream didn't start out as a "villain" on the server (in quotations as I don't believe there are truly any villains on the smp and everyone is just morally grey) ,,, he didn't want any fighting on his server and wanted to keep his "big happy family" together +
+ so when l'manburg declares independence, of course he would want to retaliate in order to keep what he viewed as his FAMILY together. By doing so , c!wilbur, whos entire intentions were completely based on gaining more power, used that in order to make it seem as if c!dream +
+ was the villain, he was forced into that role unwillingly, and was told time and time again how awful and controlling he was despite not actually doing anything wrong. He was manipulated into a narrative foil for the story c!wilbur presented.

Second, c!dream isn't a +
+ character who's motives are completely understandable as of today, because we don't get to see the world from his perspective, the reason why most people start out as c!tommy apologists is because the majority of major events in lore are seen through his eyes. We know why he +
+ acts the way he does because we've seen firsthand what he has gone through. With c!dream we haven't gotten that, so analyzing his character takes a little more time than one who's morals are front and center. He is a person who longs for familiarity and safety. c!dream is +
+ just wants that "big happy family" dynamic back. He aims to protect himself from being manipulated into a role that he doesn't choose. He pushed away all attachments so no one could control him,,, control is both something he wants, and something he fears. +
+ his character has been falling down a downward mental spiral where he truly believes he can't love or care for anything because it will end up hurting him in the end. Thats why he pushed away c!sapnap and c!george. Hes a character that displays clear signs of trauma, and +
+ what a traumatized mind longs for is safety, which is often what is most familiar to a person, which oftentimes, is not healthy. So he tends to lash out, he aims to protect himself and refuses to let himself be controlled

which brings me to my next point: possession theory +
+ if you dont know what that is, it's essentially a theory that c!dream is possessed by a dreamon (a demon- esque creature from lore in october).

Like I said before, the traumatized mind is always in search of security. It longs to put itself in the best possible position +
+ where it can remain safe,, in doing so,,, he actively searches for a way to regain the sense of power he once had ,,, which leads him to getting possessed by a Dreamon, something that promised him limitless power for a price. I think all analysis of his character ive done up +
+ to this point shows that he would absolutely take this risk. all he wants is to feel secure again.

that's what's most tragic about possession theory ,,, you have a traumatized character who only wants to feel safe again and not be forced into doing anything he doesn't want +
+ to ACTIVELY do ,,, being forced into doing just that by an entity in his mind. the person who most fears control subject to possession ,,, he's FORCED to watch himself rip apart the server ,,, something he viewed as a FAMILY ,,,, and is completely unable to stop it.
