I want people to realize that when I advocate against ABA that I’m advocating for an overhaul of the system.

I am well aware that ABA is the ONLY service covered by insurance in a lot of cases and the only service available.

That is the problem I am addressing. (1/7)
ABA is not therapeutic because of the use of punishment/reward, suppression of stimming, and training in NT behaviors.

We need programs that are based on teaching real coping skills, communication skills, and providing real academic support in all schools. (2/7)
Families deserve better care and a team of qualified individuals to help them find ways to best support them.

My ABA “care team” convinced my mom that it would “fix me” and they never offered her concrete strategies to parent an autistic six year old. (3/7)
The system is absolutely broken and the fact that ABA is the ONLY option available is honestly evil.

It’s conversion therapy. You cannot rebrand and repackage conversion therapy.

It is causing so much actual trauma to children who are in desperate need of real services (4/7)
The fact that only ABA is available is absolutely predatory.

Parents should never be faced with either conversion therapy or pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to support their child.

The system is broken, and it needs to be fixed. (5/7)
When I say #SayNoToABA I am advocating for a better system that provides real and accessible services for both autistic people AND their families

ABA is conversion therapy for autistic people. We deserve better, and so do our families. (6/7)
Yes all ABA is bad.
Yes ABA is the only service available for so many people.
It is two parts of the same problem.

ABA is traumatic. It isn’t a cure. It isn’t real support. We need a radical overhaul of autism support services. (7/7)
