As someone who grew up in a home as a child where #DomesticAbuse happened more than I ever want to remember, the impact it had on me growing up was something I'd wish on no one. I still hear the violence when I think about it and wondering why the adults I love are fighting 1/ https://twitter.com/BBC/status/1389527725904474113
I was an angry child, and an angry teenager, always fighting and no one ever asked why I was like that, in my teens I spent two years with a psychologist and don't remember what we talked about but remember playing scrabble but I know those sessions made me less angry 2/
My parents separated when I was ten but the damage was done. The long term impact it had on my mum is something that will live with me foreve, It impacted me and my brothers.

Roll on 30 years an I'm 45 still with the memories of those times but they are blocked memories 3/
Memories I do not want to revisit. I'm now a father of three adult children, having our first when I was 18, married for 20 years to the woman who rescued me in a 28 year relationship an I'm sound in the knowledge that my kids were never exposed to what I was, ever! 4/
I am proud that as a Liverpool children centre worker I introduced the #YouAndMeMum programme developed by @womensaid, an delivered the programme supporting hundreds of women in my community, the programme looks at the impact on children as well as keeping women safe 5/
It is a life changing programme and I'm proud that Liverpool children centres offer it across our city. I'm a proud trustee of @merseyside_dvs having done so for 5 years, I know that my involvement in #DomesticAbuse deep down stems from being that scared child and living that 6/
Life experience, its haunted me for years. That life experience as hard as it was enabled me to give that perspective in my work life but I know I'm not alone in my experiences as sadly its a case of too many women and children. Hats off to @IanWright0 for talking about his 7/
Life in this personal way, the impact on children should never be ignored as for some of us it lasts our lifetime.

More resources and support needs to be put into these areas so professional support can be put in place for all survivors of #DomesticAbuse 8/
No one should ever have to live in a home where they are afraid, if youre in this situation reach out to @womensaid who are there to help and support.

If you live in Liverpool we have superb support available with council and partners delivering services for all 9/9
