i try to be as accurate as i can with his character, i dont over-soften him but i also dont over villain-ize him like most people do so ! dont expect these hcs to be relationship based or anything but id be lying if i said i never imagined those things too but thats separate +

from what could actually be canon. ANYWAY. these are just my ideas and im very protective/picky over him via why i never read fic about him but please feel free to give me your input ! id love to see what others think :-)

• his first year at hogwarts he didn't make any close friends because he took the time to analyze how everyone lived and learned how to fit in

• tom didnt fully intend to k^ll myrtle but since she was the first person he interacted with, he went for it on a whim

tom was right handed but taught himself to be ambidextrous bc he's dramatic lmaodjsj and in the COS you can see he uses both hands dominantly (could just be a film mistake but idc i like the idea, it fits well)

• he didn't develop "posh" like speech until his second or third year after realizing if he wanted to be respected and fit in, he'd have to act/speak "higher up" (growing up in an 30s orphanage, he definitely didn't speak or write with proper grammar like he did in later years)

• when he was being sorted, the sorting hat knew right away that he was in slytherin but was caught off guard by his direct linage to salazar and took the time to read him before announcing it

• he would use tailoring spells on his robes so they'd look new

• his boggart changes throughout his life. assuming they covered boggarts back then his 3rd year, he'd have to face one atleast once, and during this period id like to think his boggart would either be dumbledore or his own d3ad body. (i could write a whole essay analyzing this)

• slughorn, feeling bad for toms absence of parents, would give him a small gift of something for his birthday and upon leaving hogwarts, wrote him a letter expressing how proud he was of him and that he was excited to see where his future lies :,)

• when having a course upon the love potion, ofc not smelling anything like everyone else exclaimed he thought the potion was a scam and hated learning about it

• even though slughorn was his favored professor, potions was one of his least favorite subjects.

• he never indulged in the -vices- his peers bragged about, but he once tried dating to not seem suspicious, as him being a perfect student its odd for him to not have atleast one date during his school years. it of course didnt last long nor did he actually care for them

• he forged mrs.cole's signature so he could go to Hogsmeade

• LOVED Hogsmeade, he thought the little shops were interesting even if he didn't have money to buy anything

• definitely wanted to buy a little snake from the pet shop but alas he had no money </3

• feeling bad for him, the knights would sometimes buy him nice clothes for non-school outings. he was grateful because yk, free shit, but secretly he felt embarrassed because he couldn't afford it himself

• he smells like old books and burnt wood

• hes aromantic pansexual !

• was actually rly good at his flying lessons his first and second years but declined when offered quidditch tryouts

• hated quidditch, thought the games were boring and dreaded guarding under the stands for prefect duties.

• it took him only one night to figure out the anagram with his name

• he was a rly good drawer and would spend late nights designing what would later be the dark mark

• he liked taking walks down by the black lake in the evening

• he likes waffles no i wont explain further i just know it in my soul

• he likes his coffee with no cream and 1 sugar cube

• he doesnt have a sweet tooth but likes dark chocolate and minty treats

• he was a definite picky eater, or in general had a short appetite due to the rations he was used to at the orphanage

• he'd sometimes have nightmares about the orphanage

• he hated his birthday.

• he liked classical music and 30s-40s slow jazz

• i dont think he ever -wished- he felt love, but i do think he sometimes wondered what it'd be like if he did

• he sometimes also wonders what life would be like if his mother was still alive, or if he grew up the way his peers did. He secretly envied them.

• due to looking so much like the father he despised, he had grown to hate the handsome face everyone else adored, and this is why he didn't care about his drastic change in appearance

• if he ever in his life cried, he'd be a silent cryer (a pretty cryer too )

• he loved classic and gothic literature, preferably oscar wilde (the picture of dorian gray specifically) and edgar allen poe. he'd sometimes try to read romantic literature to understand the appeal but would always end up closing the book half way through.

• he liked astrology and knew quite a lot about it, but you wouldn't know unless you asked him about it. it's more of a secret interest he has.

• herbology was his very least favorite subject (imagine him wearing those earmuffs and planting the mandrakes,,, )

• he actually thought magical creatures were interesting and liked the class studies, but having to share the class with hagrid annoyed him greatly

• hes a cat person 100%

• though he didnt sing often (if at all) i imagine if he did he'd have a low but soft singing voice

• in dumbledore's class, there was always tension between them and dumbledore would purposely ask him to answer questions, leading tom to avoid his eye contact a lot

• he aced apparation on his first try

• the "unspeakable" thing he did to those kids in the cave is he unknowingly used the crucio curse on them (or a version of it since he didnt have a wand)

• he slid down to the COS the first time discovering it but after that he'd just apparate there

• this is canon if you think about it, him being headboy/prefect, he had to do all the prefect duties including helping first years around the castle, help others with homework if they asked etc. which i think is sweet to think about

+ a lot of ppl think he probably abused his prefect powers (much like draco) but i dont think he did, he had to keep that clean reputation so he wouldnt atleast OPENLY abuse those powers ? He'd only 'abuse' them if he needed to access something or a closed off room

• hypothetically if there was a triwizard tournament during his time you know damn well he'd enter and he'd definitely win. for the yule ball he'd take no date even though his knights wanted him to, and slughorn was kind enough to buy him dress robes

• he taught himself how to play piano at a really young age on a beaten down piano at the orphanage, and during some gatherings with the slugclub, slughorn would let him play on his piano

• on late nights he would like to sit by the big window in the slytherin common room

• when he got older and had to go back to the orphanage for the summer, he became more quiet and stayed in his room as much as he could. anyone who used to bully him became too intimidated by him and mostly left him alone

• on the express to hogwarts his first year, he sat alone and was glued to the scenery outside his window, fascinated by the scottish highlands (being cooped up in the orphanage hes never been anywhere else)

• he originally bought his diary for notes, but realized he didn't need it and decided to use it as something to experiment magic on (before turning it into a horcrux), enchanting it so that his friends could communicate with him through it somehow.
