If you don't support regional and off-Broadway theater I don't want your threads/thinkpieces about what Broadway "should be" artistically. What you're craving ALREADY EXISTS, support it already!!
It would be nice if Broadway shows were available to more people across the country, but if you turn your nose up at everything without a Broadway pedigree, you are part of the problem!!!
I guarantee, there is theater happening near you that needs your support. Check them out!! Broadway is only the be-all/end-all if that's all you care about!!
I feel like so much of the "Broadway accessibility" discourse is driven by young people in fandom who feel left out when they can't see the specific shows they see people talking about, which I get, but Broadway =/= theater in general, just specific, branded shows.
Personally, I care way more about young people getting to see shows in person, where they can sit close enough to see facial expressions, than watching filmed pro-shots of the latest blockbuster movie adaptation!! But that's just me!!
I've seen theater all over the country, in 40-seat storefronts and prestigious regionals, and let me tell you, very few of my most moving/memorable experiences were Broadway. Like, a tiny fraction.
