Sources indicate Liberals intend to introduce two amendments to Bill C-11. Incredibly, @s_guilbeault is still refusing to reinsert the section 4.1 protection for user generated content. Government continues to treat user generated content as a program under the law. 1/3
While the amendments will remove some UGC from CRTC regulatory power, make no mistake: the government still wants the power to regulate what people see in TikTok, Youtube, and Instagram feeds. I cover this in a post today 2/3: https://twitter.com/mgeist/status/1390295172093722626
Amendment states CRTC may impose conditions “in relation to online undertakings that provide a social media service, the discoverability of Canadian creators of programs”. Not about Netflix promoting a Canadian show. It’s about CRTC setting conditions on social media feeds. 3/3
