The Red Sox lineup is so, so imbalanced. Their 2-5 is virtually impossible to navigate - Verdugo/Martinez/Bogaerts/Devers are the only quartet on one team each with an OPS of .850+ - but then so many holes from 6-9.
Red Sox get three with that heart of the order to take the lead, have runners on second and third with none out... then can't add on, as Renfroe grounds out with the infield in, Gonzalez strikes out (after being ahead 3-0), and Dalbec flies out to right.
There's been a lot of this happening for the Red Sox of late - a failure to break open games when the opportunity presents itself.
