And now, I've gotten all endings for Nier Replicant. I'm in fucking awe. Lemme just gather my thoughts. #PS4share
Fuck, where do I even begin? Even though I knew so much about the story years ago and thanks to playing Automata, I had such a beautiful and amazing time. I absolutely adore the characters. Their dynamics and chemistry are a fucking joy to watch. The story itself is masterful-
-and full of subtle twists, hints and turns in a way that's never straight in your face, until it hits you at the end. I love how the game expects you to connect the dots yourself instead of dumping exposition, & how worldbuilding/gameplay elements tie into the narrative itself-
-in a way you don't expect because that's just what you've become used to in games, and it's honestly amazing when it all comes together. Speaking of gameplay, that's the only real gripe I have tbh, so might as well get it out of the way. This doesn't feel like a full remake as-
-much as it feels like a mix of a remake and a remaster, since while the graphics look stunning and the battle system is smooth af and really fun to play, there are way too many simplistic fetch quests (even if it does make sense narratively) that are outright grindey and not-
-really fun, and drop rates for rare items can be pretty abysmal. Another issue I wish they smoothed over better is that while there's some new content, you have to essentially replay most of the same content 3 times (even if it becomes super short later on) to view all endings-
-, and I feel that could've been handled better in this version, but since it's a rather short replay with some additional content at least (compared to the original where it didn't have that) I don't mind it too much. And with this, I legit have no other complaints. Nier is the-
-kinda masterful experience that comes once every years and there's nothing quite like it. Nier as a series is pretty fucking special, and this game is absolute proof. Oh & the music? The music is beyond amazing. It somehow improved upon an already amazing OST by leaps & bounds-
-, making the music in this game hit doubly hard for all the emotional and awesome moments. Nier and Kaine are among the best fictional characters I've seen in media, and their journeys were an amazing experience to witness. Emil is a good boy and I love him, and Weiss is a-
-cranky old fellow that you can't help but adore. The dynamics and chemistry of the group both feels natural and believable. The worldbuilding is both subtle and rewards you for looking into it. The endings are made in a way where they build on each other, and ending D is legit-
-one of the most powerful endings I've ever seen in media. This fucking game made me cry multiple time for a reason.
But then, the new, 1.22 only route E & its ending exist. This route, this fucking route, not only improves upon ending D, it has some CMOAs and CMOHs that surpass-
-everything else in the game. I was both crying and smiling like an idiot by the time the credits rolled. It was honestly a beautiful, masterfully made, and fitting conclusion to an equally beautiful story, while also feeling rather fitting for the times the world is currently-
-living in.
Automata is one of my favorite games, but other than gameplay (where Automata wins) I fucking love Replicant more, in terms of story and cast. However, it also made me appreciate Automata more as a foil to Replicant, and playing through the latter further convinced-
-me that Nier Replicant & Nier Automata are both essential to the Nier experience. If I haven't made it clear already, I got a new top favorite, I fucking love this game and this series, & I couldn't possibly recommend it more. It's honestly a beautiful and masterful experience.
