I once had a student come to my office hours because she couldn't figure out how to paste screenshots into Word. Turns out her laptop was *the first computer that her family had ever owned*

So, no, I won't be requiring them to use git. Thanks. https://twitter.com/bufordsharkley/status/1390371933204615169
Another student didn't know what "the Start button" referred to in my instructions for basically the same reason. Yet another didn't know the Ctrl+C/V shortcuts. I'd guess 1/4 of all the students I've taught had never saved a file anywhere besides the Downloads folder.
To be clear, this was not due to lack of curiosity or aptitude. Major culprits are underfunding schools and teaching for tests/checklists. UX is also becoming more tangible/less abstract– git is basically file algebra, which for some people (me) is needlessly cumbersome!
