(A Thread)
1931, Manchester United facing bankruptcy and attracting crowds of around 4000. They couldn’t afford the upkeep of their kits and asked Manchester City if they could have the kits from their previous season to use as an away kit, began a tradition of United’s away kit being blue
1945, Manchester City Kindly offered the use of Maine Road to their red neighbours after Old Trafford was destroyed by the German Luftwaffe. United used Maine road for 4 Seasons.
Manchester City sent their own players twice weekly to assist with labour on the construction site rebuilding Old Trafford.
1958, Manchester City offered several players to United so that they could continue to participate in competitive football after the Munich air disaster.
Because United could not participate in the European cup, UEFA offered City a place in the tournament due to their unwavering support of United during that hard time. City refused out of respect for United.
THEN In the 90’s a black and white banner appeared at Old Trafford in the Stratford end mocking Manchester City’s lack of success. The same Manchester City that ensured United remained in existence and that their Fans had a club to support.
