1. the award is given in the offseason

2. this historic comment is at the core of the resistance to him, the idea that Jokic doesn’t fit “greatness” despite the fact that Jokic has won three playoff series already.

This is the very core of the discussion about Jokic. https://twitter.com/NuggetsFansOnly/status/1390340360698744834
It genuinely makes you wonder if Larry Bird would have been treated like this in today’s game, and if you think that comparison is nuts, bear in mind that Mike Gorman and Scal compared him openly on a celtics-Nuggets broadcast earlier this year.
There are people, reasonable people, good media members, who are just really offended at the idea that Jokic is a great player, and I can’t for the life of me figure it out. If he had stats but no playoff success, I’d get it, but he BEAT THE CLIPPERS LAST YEAR.
Nikola Jokic isn’t thought of as great despite the fact that he as the best player in a series featuring Paul George and Kawhi Leonard.

that FEELING doesn’t just ignore the empirical evidence, but it ignores what is supposed to be the differentiator: playoff success
I don’t think we have to agree on all these things and I don’t think we have to label things we disagree with “terrible takes.” We can disagree.

I’m more interested in WHY Jokic checks every single box and yet there’s a feeling of

“But nah, come on, look at him”
