Tomorrow, the @NobelPrize laureate Peter Handke will visit Višegrad, a Bosnian town where Serb nationalist forces killed and expelled all non-Serbs in 1992-1995, one of the many crimes Handke has whitewashed in his Yugoslav writings. Journalists—cover the story the right way:

Handke & his famous defenders, from Knausgard to Kusturica, will claim that he's in Bosnia for "peace" etc. Don't mindlessly repeat their words.
Give context: Handke has a record of blaming "fake news" for the war & justifying Serb nationalist violence https://twitter.com/maassp/status/1183847059696304133

Handke & his crew will likely say they're sad for "all" the victims of the Bosnian War.
Remember: This is a common denialist tactic. Much like Turkish nationalists say they mourn "all" victims of 1915 (& then deny the Armenian genocide), Handke promotes "all victims" stories

Handke & his crew will talk separation of art from politics, art from the artist, etc.
Stick to the facts: Over 20 yrs, Handke eulogized Milosevic, endorsed far-right extremists in elections, & will meet Dodik, officially sanctioned for warmongering. There is no such separation.

Crucially—in a story about war crimes & their aftermath (e.g. Visegrad), ALWAYS consult and foreground the survivors and victims and their words! Don't copy/paste whitewashed press releases! Do your research!
In short, do not copy/paste the statements by Handke & his enablers. That's the path of least resistance, esp when dealing with authors who use their fame & clout to peddle malicious disinformation. It takes courage, but do your research!
PS: if anyone needs to read up on the Handke scandal, here's a good index of writings in several languages (thanks to @___adn) https://medium.com/@___adn/index-of-articles-on-peter-handkes-nobel-prize-515060442ca5
PPS: And all this needs to be said, whether about Visegrad or Banja Luka or anything related to the Bosnian genocide, because too often starstruck culture reporters reproduce Handke’s claims in egregious both-sideisms like this: https://twitter.com/_edinh/status/1205018562802454528
