[ long analysis about a3! character: part 1 ]

i want to share my thoughts about itaru chigasaki, and how amazing his character is written
first of all, this thread contains spoilers for kniroun event story and one itaru& #39;s birthday sr card. my opinion is based only on stories we have in english version, or some small things i already read on wiki. the reason why i don& #39;t want to read everything
at instance is because i don& #39;t want my excitement for playing to vanish and i hope it doesn& #39;t make my words invalid. anyway, let& #39;s go~
i love every character from a3! and i can talk about them a lot? the reason why i& #39;m starting from itaru is because he was first character i get attached to and he made me realize how amazing boys and izumi are; how much comforting they are.
for some reason, every part of his personality, past and also how he was acting around people for all these years make me too emotional.
itaru is one of the most popular characters in fandom, maybe because it& #39;s really easy to relate to him.
his fate is perfect example for seeing:
– how trauma can affect your entire life,
– how being around right people is important to heal invisible wounds,
– how important is to have any interests, especially when they bring you comfort and help you to survive hard time in life,
– how sharing stuff with people we love can make everything better, even if it& #39;s simple act between friends and family.
but also i want to speak about why exactly mankai is important to him.
first impression of itaru is simple. charming prince with pretty face. second is a wild gamer. third, just a person, who struggle with relyin on people and have hard time with being passionate about any other things than games.
before i get to his character development, there is sad true.
itaru didn& #39;t plan ever to remove his mask before harugumi. it was just one of stops, where he covers his true self. horrific thing is that, if he wouldn& #39;t open up,
itaru probably would be trapped in invisible cage of fake persona for the rest of his life.
the nightmare started so early in his life, when he was bullied in middle school. it was because he was actually himself: timid boy, who just likes to play games. world choose wrong place for him, where being different wasn& #39;t acceptable and itaru was treated badly.
from is words we can even assume that he was scared to go back home and we can only imagine, how
much some stupid idiots was trying to crush him. the only thing which bring him comfort was playing games in his own room, especially kotr and we will
talk about the game iself later.
the real tragedy for itaru started, when his sister propose to change his persona and use his looks as advantage. there is something in her
that makes me suspicious about how she was acting towards itaru in general, as a member of family.
anyway, when we read itaru& #39;s birthday sr, we can
see them, training itaru to be more like & #39;ill-fated boy& #39;. but did he actually want that? i don& #39;t think so. for the first, he didn& #39;t really plan to change. maybe just try to survive if in new school bullying would happen again.
the reason why itaru agreed for his sister plan it was probably because... he was scared of being hurt again.
i don& #39;t want to discuss and judge itaru with this decision. it& #39;s reasonable for someone, who was abused for so long. he just tried to protect himself.
tonooka was another coming drama to itaru& #39;s life, because what he did was... cruel. itaru was betrayed by him in few seconds, after a few years of friendship.
it hurts: itaru finally found someone, who was also passionate about stuff he like and
just being around tonooka probably was bringing him comfort, that he never felt. it was small ray of sunshine, which could help itaru to somehow trust people; but his friend destroyed it and made everything even worse.
summarizing, itaru for his college and adult years was left with three things: mask of charming prince, lack of ability to trust anyone and... not being able
to express negative emotions. let me explain this.
when he is gaming, itaru scream and curse. playing was only thing that helped him get through life and it was his space of comfort. but whenever he is trying to talk about anything more serious to anyone, like his past trauma to harugumi for example, itaru never gets emotional.
he is calm, sometimes with sad smile on his face. it& #39;s also seen in his final confrontation with toonoka in high school. he just... left him, saying that
he shouldn& #39;t waste his time anymore. they didn& #39;t argue, there was no screaming.
itaru was used to being hurt in middle school to the point that he could only process sadness inside, not outside. it teached him to accept being hurt again, and again.
now we& #39;re finally in mankai.
i& #39;m gonna start with itaru& #39;s... dismissal line.
"i& #39;ve just started thinking of this place as my home after a while... never thought i& #39;d be this sad..."
it& #39;s obvious why mankai is his home.
whole spring troupe became first people he considered as real family. of course they& #39;re special. the way how itaru finds comfort around them is beyond my words and it& #39;s not only the case of power of friendship.
it& #39;s the fact that standing on stage with them made his heart finally warm and it moved him to tears. it& #39;s itaru acting like older brother towards younger members. it& #39;s also itaru & #39;acting like itaru& #39; around everyone: he can be childish and emotional, without fear of judgement.
because no one really judged him. they just saw that itaru is an actual passionate gamer and.. that was all. of course his gaming is sometimes used as
general joke in whole series, but it doesn& #39;t reach this border, where it could hurt itaru for real.
there is something heartwarming in this, becuase we can surely say that itaru is loved. mankai is like treasure he doesn& #39;t want to lose.
and now... we& #39;re finnaly moving to kotr.
you all probably have some comfort series. for me it& #39;s a3, for you it might be different franchise, and for itaru it& #39;s knights of the round table. he was into it since being a little child. it really helped him, even if it was just a game.
he even went on stage, to say how kotr helped him to cope with bullying (which by the way, he described as "hell").
and now i& #39;m getting emotional, but i need to say that.
seeing how itaru is motivated to make kotr play succesful, how he tried to support everyone to have grasp over their characters and how he was just doing his bests made me to feel proud of him. it& #39;s not like i wasn& #39;t before,
but that was final moment, where it felt like he is free from his past self (but it& #39;s not like he can& #39;t improve more of course)
the most important part of everything: mankai was there for him all the time. on his stage speech he actually said "seeing my fellow members, some who barely touched games, having great time even as they struggled through each level... well, it made my day",
which means that even simple act, playing with spring troupe, who was actually interested in sharing experience with him and having fun while that, bring itaru one of biggest joys in his life.
but that& #39;s how mankai works. you can be yourself here and they don& #39;t reject anyone, no matter what.
even if itaru& #39;s adolescence was hell, this place helped him to overcome some fears and insecurities, which made his life just better.
and that& #39;s the end of this analysis. thank you for reading~
