Let us divide this topic into two parts

Fist of all, Football systems yet before were very basic,
The wingers were instructed to provide width and support both attack and defence while the strikers would score.
Wingers, wide players or wide forwards.
These players play high and wide and attack from the outside areas of the field. This position changes and evolves at a steady pace. Decade by decade we tend to see differences in how wide players are utilised.
In the old times, the 4-4-2 Flat was the prominent formation in both defence and attack. Even though most teams right now use the same formation to maintain a steady defensive shape, it takes a completely different form whilst in attack.
one decade ago, the winger was supposed to support his full-back in defence and then support the striker in attack, mainly with crosses. His job was predominantly supporting, scoring was never really the concern
It’s not that they were always confined to doing this alone as they also played centrally at times, but providing width and crosses were the basic duties of the wingerhttps://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😅" title="Lächelndes Gesicht mit offenem Mund und Angstschweiß" aria-label="Emoji: Lächelndes Gesicht mit offenem Mund und Angstschweiß">
However, with changes in the way football is played right now, with forwards that are much more specialised than before, the position that has seen the most evolvement is the winger’s.
With the Football tactical Development in the second decade of the twenty-first century, the use of scorers on the wings became the norm.
Scoring goals became the winger& #39;s first job on the field, more freedom with fewer defensive duties.
In the modern 4-3-3 the Wide players are now encouraged to cut in while the striker drops to become the trequartista . the wing exploit the spaces between the opposing centre-backs and full-backs by making runs in those channels.
Right now the responsibility of flirting with the touchline, playing crosses to the striker and providing width is entrusted to the full-backs of the team instead of the wing.
this is clarified
How does all that relate to Ronaldo?
When we analyze everything mentioned above it show that it& #39;s so easy to differentiate between Ronaldo under SAF and Ronaldo After 2010-2011 season
that CR7 was a winger (MF position) used at least in 60% of his games to do the traditional wing job (player away from the goal sticking to the touchline) unlike the current winger-Forwads.
So how ?

Between 2006/07 and 2008/2009, Ronaldo as a winger made 427 crosses in the Premier League only
too far for a wing
70% of Ronaldo& #39;s assists with Man United came from the zone 18 and zone 16 (Corners,Crosses..)
only 20% come from the zone 14
Just look at his 118 goals with Man United a very clear majority are from set-pieces ( Freekicks, corners) and cut-ins, and a few are from counters (continue)..
In comparison with the goals of the current wide players who are literally goal scorers Mo Salah, Jota...(Including Cr7 since 2010/2011) are "striker goals"
The point of this is that Ronaldo wss not used primarily for scoring goals yet before so !
While Ronaldo under Mourinho and next, because of his offensive versatility he changed his game!
Became inverted winger (Forward) in 4-4-3 , 4-3-2-1 formations
He became allowed to cut inwards, attacking the box, and move freely in the last third of the opponent& #39;s court
this greatly helped him to become exceptionally prolific
And it positively affected his goal rate
