Ye olde annual tweet for authors considering hiring a freelance literary flack: 1. Google to see the sort of books a publicist works on before you contact them. 2. Talk to/email the publicist you think is the right fit for you & your book A YEAR IN ADVANCE of your pub date.
Yes! I said a year. Our plates get full which means that even if we want to work on your book, sometimes we can't. For instance, at @BroadsidePR we're each full (with exceptional projects btw), through 2021 and not able to take more on at this time.
Here's a good (but a lil outdated) list from a couple years ago of freelance literary publicists @publishingtrend: http://www.publishingtrends.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/PT-Publicity-Contact-Sheet-2019-5.1.pdf
