Okay everyone! It’s time to head out to the field and get our #herping on!! You may be thinking: what am I going to see? Depending on where you live, you could see a number of #salamanders, #frogs, or #caecilians.
For more information on amphibians near you, you can check out @Amphibiaweb for an extensive amphibian database!
Drum roll: IT’S #SALAMANDER TIME! If you’ve been following #amphibianweek, you might’ve learned that many sallies have aquatic + terrestrial life stages. These cute nuggets can be found under rocks, leaves, bark + in bodies of water. Let’s flip some rocks + put that dipnet to use
Honestly, who knew flipping logs could bring someone so much joy. Here we have three lovely #EasternNewts. These cuties are native to Eastern North America and are a fairly common sight in/around small bodies of water! #snuggletime
Next up we have a two-toed #amphiuma! Despite its strange eel-like look, this is actually a salamander. If you ever get to adventure through the southeastern US, be sure to check out aquatic habitats for these itty bitty legged bois… but watch out! They can pack a mean bite!
