Also if you collectivize with your hood you make better food systems. Like say one homie is bad with veggies but can grow fruit trees like a mug, or doesn't mind raising back yard chickens, welp divide up jobs based on space needs, and skill sets.

You have an elder who owns a home but cannot take care of the yard space, ask them to use their yard, stick around and help them do chores. BAM. You are protecting an Elder by creating multigeneration connections.

People during the World Wars regularly survived and supplemented their diets by doing this, learn to can and pickle. Or figure out if you have a friend who likes that part but not dirt. Ask for help, ppl generally do want to help and be a part of something more communal

even though I was raised up Urban/guerilla farming, got my first job at 13 through the city...as an urban farmer, went to a rez program to volunteer my skills as farmer. I am sure some silly Vanilla Vulture is gon try an 'splain to me how my life experience means nothing -
