Not once in your original tweet did you ever mention bisexuality or biphobia. You talked about lesbians who center their identity about their lack of attraction to men. So let’s dissect this 🧵 https://twitter.com/dayoffgoth/status/1390155533403844609
The reason many lesbians make not being attracted to men such a strong part of their identity is because from day one, we are told that we have to like men. That being attracted to men is expected of us. And because of that, many lesbians experience comphet
And when we are affected by comphet, it makes it difficult to discover our identities as lesbians. So when we finally realize we have no attraction to men and are lesbians, it’s an almost euphoric feeling.
Other than aromantic and asexual, all other sexualities include attraction to men in some capacity. So as lesbians, our lack of attraction to men is important and special to us, and that’s why we talk about it so much.
Our lack of attraction to men is also part of the reason why lesbians want our own spaces that don’t include bisexuals or pansexuals. Not because we are biphobic or panphobic, but because we want a space to talk about our shared lack of attraction to men
Now, I do absolutely agree that it is a very shitty thing to say “Oh I’m so sorry you’re attracted to men” and things along those lines to bisexuals and pansexuals
However, the first part of your tweet, which is the part most people took issue with, is not about that. It’s only about lesbians who center their identities about not being attracted to men. And if you say “oh that’s not what I meant” then tough shit
You can’t make a statement that clearly reads one way, and then when you get called out because what you said was shitty, backtrack and say that you meant something entirely different.
