People “defend Darwin” as if it’s a neutral “purely scientific” science discovered by divine revelation when Darwin went “hm what if I applied Malthus to the Entirety of Being?”— & they do this because they want this Malthusianism to transcend “politics” (history).

This was the debate Gould had with Pinker, Dawkins, et al— they suggested that he “denied science for politics” because he did not grant Malthusianism the role of Transcendental Explanation of all Human Behavior.

It’s not a surprise when “Rationalists” who “are above politics & simply trust the Science” suggest that anyone who doesn’t take their Malthusian liberal metaphysic as Divine Revelation— is “unenlightened” or “backwards” ie “will not be Naturally Selected”

If anything should have made you realize how fucking off base all of this is— it should have been Covid. “Trust the Science” turns out to be distinctly historical & political in its applications— & this application is a form of determinative power granted to a priesthood.

Funny thing is— they need to eliminate Self-Consciousness as a valid metaphysical category— there is no “Holistic Self-Consciousness” in Malthus— there is only “adaptation strategies” & “natural selection”— both of which define the other.

If something exists, it was “selected for” — it was “selected by Nature”— it’s an immense tautology that is ultimately ungrounded. “Self-consciousness” in this schema becomes a “virtual reality selected by Nature”— it does not “truly exist”
