There are 6 things that every single prosecutor who is actually concerned about justice should do:

1. Ensure every single individual being prosecuted is directly asked whether they want a lawyer to be appointed at no cost to them.
2. Leave the original plea deal open all the way through conclusion of the case. Don't yank it away as punishment for asking for discovery, filing a motion, or proceeding to trial.
3. Refuse to use "habitual offender" or "persistent felony offender" enhancements.
4. Think critically about which positions of the defense you actually oppose. Have reasons for that opposition. Don't just object out of habit every single time the defense asks for something, such as a lower bond.
5. Decline to prosecute if the alleged victim does not want you to.
6. Do not encourage anyone to plead guilty without being advised by a lawyer by making a nicer, limited-time-only offer at arraignment in exchange for them refusing to exercise their right to counsel. Make that same offer available to them after they've found counsel.
These are not progressive or abolitionist asks. These asks are the bare minimum a prosecutor can do to make the system a bit less awful for the people being obliterated by it. These are things any decent human being should do when they have the power to do so.
