TN, KS, MO were strongly centrist and bipartisan before undergoing the kinds of takeovers that GOP now trying to orchestrate nationwide. @CNN @MSNBC others should vocally highlight the experiences/strategies of Dems in those states ie @JRClemmons @staceynewman @repjimcooper
And others who have had front-row seats for transitions from functioning if imperfect governance to ideological 1-party rule. Worry that lots of US not seeing the larger strategies and implications ...
In #DyingOfWhiteness, I also write about coalitions of politicians and activists in Kansas who were able to push back. What strategies can be learned?
Take home point: Northern strategies potentially ineffective against what is becoming a nationalized Southern strategy. Start talking and listening to ppl who have lived through this in purple-turned-red states
As well as reporting by @TheTNHoller and reporters at @Tennessean etc
(As another example - and with complete, complete respect to everyone: police departments function differently in different southern states, subject to different politics, policies, funding, etc - national news sometimes risks swooping in and conflating the entire south, e.g.)
