#Michigan House Oversight Committee is talking at 10:30 about a potential ban to COVID-19 vaccine passports...
...confirmed with spox with Gov. Whitmer that they're not even exploring passports, adding that these efforts are "a circus." #mileg #mipol

Debating HB 4667, which would ban government entities from requiring vaccine passports. Sponsored by Rep. Sue Allor, who is testifying right now.

Allor just confirmed she has not and will not get the COVID-19 vaccine. #mileg
A little disconnect between her testimony and her bill, as I understand it in its current form.
She's talking about passports as if they would be an app the government could track someone's movements.
Most policies I've seen internationally allows for just paper passports.

Also, another of her concerns seem to be about being blocked from going to restaurants, Tigers games, etc.
Presumably they are private businesses that could block people based on their own policies. Doesn't seem like a conservative principle to me...

Allor hints that other vaccine passport bills will be introduced to address other issues outside government.
Rep. Julie Brixie points out that the bill would ban the state from tracking vaccine records through its database. This is the registry they use: https://www.mcir.org/

William Wagner, a WMU constitutional law professor, insinuates a vaccine passport would be similar to wrist marks of Jews that suffered through the Holocaust.
Surprised Democratic cmte members haven't pushed back on that assertion. Truly astonishing remark.

Rep. O'Malley makes the point that businesses can do what they want, and if he doesn't like it, he doesn't need to give them his $.
Allor agrees, but just last week, she was at a rally where Katherine Henry said even that was unconstitutional. https://www.mlive.com/public-interest/2021/04/backdoor-to-a-mandate-protesters-republican-lawmakers-oppose-covid-19-vaccine-passports.html

Rep. David LaGrand said this conversation is coming up too early, since we don't know what vaccine passports even look like in this state.
"We don't even know what this thing is...if we have something to oppose, we could do that."

So again, Wagner repeating that the concern is over sharing of vaccine data could bar someone from going to Costco.
The. bill. doesn't. address. private. businesses.
It's only about government pushing for or mandating passports.

So, as many others have pointed out, Allor and Wagner are referencing a bill substitute that adds certain language.
Lots of confusion between committee members, Allor, Wagner and media. Everyone's reading from a different text.

Rep. Steven Johnson, the typical Oversight chair, returns for testimony and says amendments to the bill are already in the pipeline.
Anti-vax testimony going on now.

I've avoided reprinting a lot of this misinformation. Let's just say there has been a lot of it.
I will add that the current speaker Maya Hahn was the MC at the anti-vax/anti-passport rally last Thursday. These voices getting elevated in the House Oversight Committee today.

Also, another Holocaust reference from Hahn. Brings up Nuremberg and Nazi Germany.
I think I count for Holocaust or Nazi references in this hearing alone.
