No act of violence committed against Black people can ever shock me.
Not after what white folks did to Mary Turner.

You don't know who Mary Turner is? Mary Turner was a woman, a pregnant woman, who publicly denounced the lynching of her husband Hayes.
White people were so offended by the idea of Black solidarity, and Black rebellion in the face of anti-Blackness, that they grabbed Mary, tied her to a tree...
..."hung [her] upside down by the ankles, soaked [her] gasoline, set her on fire, [slit her belly] open with a knife like those used 'in splitting hogs.' Her unborn [baby] fell to the ground and gave two feeble cries.
"One of the white folks crushed the baby's head with his heel, and the crowd shot hundreds of bullets into Turner's body. They cut Mary Turner down and buried her with her child near the tree, with a whiskey bottle marking the grave."
So after knowing that, after having that travel through my veins via blood memory and be lodged in my brain via generational trauma, I cannot be shocked.

But still, what they did to #MikaylaMiller.
I hope y'all have more sympathy, more care, more empathy for Mikayla than you do for Ma'Khia Bryant.

I hope Mikayla better fits your qualifications for being "suitable to not be murdered."
I hope your profound and unyielding hatred of Black children has exceptions and caveats, and your narrow understanding of "innocence" can be properly employed and directed.
I hope you don't do Mikayla like you do Ma'Khia, or all the little girls that R. Kelly r*ped, who y'all said were "fast," "grown," and "should have known better."

I hope, unlike how y'all did with Ma'Khia and Korryn Gaines, y'all don't side with the racists over their victims.
And I hope y'all don't get mad if I can't trust y'all if y'all do.

And may Ancestor Mary protect me from your treachery by any means necessary.
