For something different yesterday I decided to look at classical reception. I used 3 works of art in the Louvre and then the amazing video of Beyoncé in the Louvre and discussed how she used the same pieces. I started off with a peardeck where I described the painting "the oath of the Horatii" and let students try to draw it. Then we discussed. This image is a great way to get at the development of modern nationalism and fascism.
This painting features even more prominently so we also looked at this and I told them the story of the Sabine women.
And if you haven't seen the Beyoncé video here are some stills to give you a sense of the treat your in store for. Yes you do have to play some of the video on mute for younger students.
