Arctic monkeys cinematic universe a thread đŸ˜‰đŸ˜©
Mean streets (as mentioned in knee socks) - director Martin Scorsese
1984 (as mentioned in star treatment) - director Michael Radford based on a novel by George Orwell
The Old Grey Whistle Test (as mentioned in four out of five) - the thing here is like this was a 1971 British television show and helped basically every big artist from the 70s or early 80s get exposure like blondie, Bob Marley, mick jagger, David Bowie etc.
Dark city (as mentioned in she looks like fun) - director Alex Proyas
Blade runner (as mentioned in star treatment) - director Ridley Scott
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (as mentioned in black treacle ig) - director George Roy Hill
I'm either Making this up or this was mentioned in batphone - director Jonathan Mostow
Barbarella (as mentioned in Arabella) - director Roger Vadim
I don't think any of us can deny that the whole tbhc era was 1970s-1980s movie inspired movies like 2001: A Space Odyssey by Stanley Kubrick is a heavy influence on the tbhc and 4/5 music videos not to mention the famous dollhouse effect and the Kubrick zoom.
And I think that Stanley Kubrick had to be mentioned because the colors and some of the blocking techniques used in the tbhc mvs are very similar to the ones used in the shining so we can't deny where the bad got their inspiration from.
Okay so this is an example of the Kubrick zoom from eyes wide shut starring tom cruise and Nicole Kidman.
Alex from the 4/5 mv
So as the horse as it is a cultural reference to Ferrari and as it plays a role throughout the music video is with one of the people from the tbhc with the person Trying to calm it down we get nick and aled into the frame this is a classic example of blocking which Kubrick used.
The Kubrick perspective one of the most famous scene set ups in film
The frame ratio is ofc different because it's a music video not a movie but the similarities are so clear but i must say that the ratio from the shining is replicated throughout the music video and used as a pov as the hotel is being advertised.
I'm not gonna lie this part gives me eyes wide shut vibes and I'll show you why
SEE
Also these two shots are VERY eyes wide shut because Kubrick tried to put as much intimate mystery in it as possible and i think this perfectly replicates it and the thing is that it's like you know what's going on bc you're there you're watching it but you really don't.
I must underline the fact that the Tranquility base hotel in my opinion represents some kind of a parallel to the overlook hotel as it was the main hotel which the shining evolved around.
I'm sorry i had to mention this the fact that the dolly trails are visible in this scene is something so personal to me i can't 💔
THE ZOOM IN THIS PART IS SO PERFECT IM CRYING
And also i feel like the use of red lights and stripes in the music videos was related to optical illusions and vertigo by Alfred Hitchcock but this is just an assumption based on thin air i really don't know :D
So basically in tbhc and 4/5 music videos we see references to films like :
-the shining
-eyes wide shut
-2001: A Space Odyssey
Also if someone remade this thread that would be nice I'm like dumb and I'm sure a lot of things and lyrics and songs exited my mind and i also fangirled over tbhc so this is my fault i am very sorry for what I've done it was very wrong.
I ALMOST FORGOT
I wanna stay with you, my love
The way some science fiction does
I'M SORRY I HAD TO SAY IT
Ps there were so many batman references i can't with him
