We held an event earlier this year on the collapse of informal employment in the wake of the pandemic. Our research found that female casual workers lost more jobs than male workers during the lockdown period.

Six months into the pandemic, around 45% of the sample households in villages we surveyed reported a reduction in their usual food consumption.

The same research article documented how a little over a third of study households took loans to manage the livelihood crisis imposed by the pandemic.
