There’s something disturbing about how our society discusses ecological disasters; the plummeting numbers of monarchs is clearly one.

Big agribusiness is the culprit here, but instead we obsess over “climate” which is not a cause on this species crisis. (1/x) https://twitter.com/literaryeric/status/1390266503543627781
The science of their decline is unequivocal (anyone who spent anytime outside over the past three decades notices the monarch absence).

So too is what has killed them - the lack of habitat and the planting of corn across the country.

Big agribusiness gets a total pass. (2/x)
And yet we’d rather talk about fossil fuels, greenhouse gases, hurricanes, and long term warming trends, for which the science and long term impact are much less clear. (4/x)
If you’re not talking about the environmental emergency caused by big agro, chemical and big fishing you’re not a serious person. But these industries have bought off so much of the movement, we are trained to think about climate in terms of CO2, big oil, greenhouse gases. (5/x)
You want to talk about 100 year emissions targets, fine. But how about you we do something about the obvious things that are killing off species *now* like the ethanol mandate (ironically championed as “green”) and widespread toxins in the food chain? (6/x)
End of rant. Good morning!
