hello, audiologist here!
auditory processing is an awkward thing, it tends to be a symptom of stress/depression/anxiety/ADHD/autism to name a few!

very often the person may have normal hearing levels in a puretone hearing test but that doesn't mean the difficulties aren't true. https://twitter.com/cypopps/status/1390053240948117504
There's no cure for auditory processing disorder and because so many aspects of it are still being researched it can't be officially diagnosed.

However, you can undergo rehabilitation (auditory training) to improve concentration and listening skills https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/auditory-processing-disorder/
It's very common in children, but can be developed in later years. With children it is always advised to keep them seated at the front of the class in easy listening range of the teacher and with no distracting stimuli to interrupt.a
Adults who struggle with auditory processing may find it difficult to remember instructions. For example, you may HEAR your boss speaking to you, but you don't completely understand/remember what was said.
For cases such as these it is advisable for bosses to provide a written set of tasks for the work day to prevent confusion, frustration and further anxiety, while also reducing the need for repetition.
It's important to know that auditory processing is a big problem! And although I've had patients claim they are "just stupid" - I cannot disagree more.
Your brain energy is going into so many things that your processing just took a back seat and that's okay! We just need to bring it back on track and ground you again. ๐Ÿ’•
