Tim Duncan a defensive monster.
Ducan is unarguably a top 5 career defensive player ever and has a case for being the 2nd greatest defensive player ever. He led the Spurs to the greatest defensive dynasty the NBA has seen since the merger.
The Duncan and Spurs have an 11 year stretch of being a minus 6.1 defence. In comparison Bill Russell and the Celtics had an 11 year stretch of being a minus 7.2 defence.
Duncan is the anchor of the greatest defensive team since the merger which is the 2004 Spurs which had a -8.8 defensive rating even beating out the 2004 Pistons another all-time defensive team.
People bring up that Drob was the best player defensive player on the 1999 Spurs as a way to diminish Duncan's defensive ability however we can see that Duncan wasn't "carried" by Drob off the 7-year stretch he and the Spurs from 02-08.
Duncan as the clear anchor of the defence from 02-08 led the Spurs to minus 6.2 defence and in the playoffs led the Spurs to a minus 5.6 defence (minus 6.6 if you exclude 06).
Many people like to diminish Duncan's defence by saying that Pop was the main reason for Spurs defensive greatness and that he's the goat coach which I agree with but, I don't think this takes away from Duncan's defensive greatness.
