I get what made her think this but with age, I understand even more the wisdom behind a blanket ban on women fasting during their period. Women would’ve been shamed for not fasting when suffering even if they had endometriosis etc since our societies don’t take periods seriously. https://twitter.com/promesse_mar/status/1389971611365699590
Painful & debilitating period would never have been seen as a valid enough reason to skip fasts if Allah hadn’t enforced it in His mercy? Can you imagine how many judgemental ‘Imagine thinking having period pain is a valid excuse to not fast 🤢’ tweets we would have been seeing?
If you had left it to women to figure out amongst themselves if their period made them sick enough to warrant skipping fasts, barely any of us would. Societal/peer pressure & guilt would’ve made us carry on & it would’ve been damaging for those with the worst symptoms.
Many talk about how progressive it would be if jobs/schools gave women blanket time off from duties to rest & recover every month during their period but it’s seen as regressive when it’s built into Islam? Imagine finally falling asleep from pain & waking up for fajr at 3am 😭
